[They] went to pray

Last year I had called several of the Korean Districts pastors wishing them New Years, and to speak to them to encouraging them. Several of the pastor’s wives said “he went to pray”. When I heard that news, I was very glad to hear that.

Several pastors usually preach about “praying constantly” when one is a beginner in believing in Christ.

I was always curious why such thing was important. I thought it was important to pray, but doing also praying that my work would go well. But when the depth of believing becomes deeper, I begin to see why the prayer was so important. I was able to see that instead of reading books about praying, there are so many things you can learn from praying by hearing the testimony of many of the older believers.

I was able to see that by praying, I am able to see if the things I am about to do is for God. Also able to discern what things are to be done first. In the Four Gospels, Christ always said to seek things of God instead of one’s self. Problem is “What is the many things I have achieved?” – Instead of “Was this for God?”

Through prayers, I was able to see that my work had much more value. As much as I look at God, all those small obstacles are much easier to overcome. As Apostle Paul said in the Letter to the Church of Philippians, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13)”. I was able to see what that strength was about.

Also, by praying, one can understand others better. Without praying, I cannot ask for forgiveness, nor would I be able to forgive and forget. When I don’t pray, my stubbornness to overcome obstacles was much harder, and I couldn’t have any inner peace.

When I went to the first superintendant’s meeting, the vice president of the National Ministries said this: From the Barnabas Research, our denomination’s pastor’s had opinion polling, and by far our denomination’s pastors had answered much more calls from the office then other denominations. The pastor’s who had gone pray in the beginning of this year, what would they do while they are in their office in the mid week? I trust they would study the Bible and pray. As the first church’s apostles “…and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” With the apostle’s praying constantly, at that time the word of God was explosive in believer’s numbers. This is very rare during those centuries.

I hope that through the devoted prayers and words of pastors, the Korean District would raise a healthy church and to make disciples. To the honorable pastors of the Korean District, I pray for your good fight.
